Cranes fans cheer at Namboole Stadium

Uganda Cranes has beaten Ghana’s Black Stars 1-0 to extend its chances of qualifying for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations championship.

The Cranes took the lead with an 8th minute goal from Savio Kabugo to thunderous cheers from hundreds of fans who braved the afternoon downpour at Namboole Stadium.

This victory is also a huge ego boost for the Cranes, considering that the teams drew 1-1 in Kumasi in September in one of the Group E ties.

It also brings memories of the 1-0 defeat of the Black Stars by the Cranes in an AFCON qualifier in Kampala in 2002.

The win moves Uganda to 7 points on the Group E but they need to beat Guinea on Wednesday to keep the country’s dream to qualify for AFCON alive.
