Ugandans detained in China on drug related cases face execution

David Kugonza | April 26, 2017

Ugandans detained in China on drug related cases risk facing execution in line with Chinese laws after government efforts to have them deported and detained here hit a snug.

According to the Foreign Affairs Ministry, there are about 120 Ugandans in China’s prisons and 73 of these are on death row.

While appearing before the Foreign Affairs Committee of Parliament this afternoon, Foreign Affairs Minister Sam Kuteesa said government is still negotiating to have Ugandans serve their sentences from home.

The Minister however says that not much progress been made so far, due to differences in the judicial systems.
