Ugandans to determine fate of PLE

By Damali Mukhaye

The Government has said that the public will determine whether the ministry of education should abolish primary leaving examinations (PLE) or not.

The World Bank in 2018 asked the Ministry to abolish the exams on ground that a huge chunk of money totaling up to Shs 306 billion is lost in what they called “unproductive education”.

Speaking to KFM, the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Education, Dr Denis Mugimba says that the Ministry cannot base on the World Bank recommendation to cause any changes and as such will make further consultations from various stakeholders.

The Ministry of education has kick-started the process of overhauling the entire education system to come up with the new policies that will replace the old outdated ones that were formulated way back in 1992.
