Ugandans Urged To Stop Violence Against Women

The Uganda Police Force is urging all Ugandans to join the fight against all forms of violence against girls and women as the focus for this year’s international women’s day celebrations.

Police statistics released today a head of March 8th Women’s Day, show an increase on crimes committed against women and girl child.

The data from 2010 to 2016 shows an increase in cases of death by domestic violence, women trafficking, defilement, rape, child kidnap, child trafficking, child torture, incest, and child desertion.

The call was made during a news conference early today at the police headquarters by the deputy IGP Okoth Ochola ahead of commemoration of the 6th Kigali declaration.

The week-long celebrations will include activities like a marathon in Old Kampala to be graced by the police chief Gen Kale Kayihura and exhibition which opens tomorrow at railway grounds and climax on March 7th with a public lecturer at Makerere University Business School ahead of Women’s Day on March 8th.
