As Catholics prepare to host Pope Francis this November, the tourism industry is also ready to tap into this opportunity.
According to Uganda Tourism Board Chief Executive Officer Steven Asiimwe, over 100,000 foreign visitors are expected into the country and this is a big opportunity for Uganda to shine.
He says that as Uganda tourism board, they are working on a catalogue containing all tourist sites in Uganda, in addition to a video which will be supplied to these visitors.

Yesterday hundreds of believers took part in a charity walk aimed at raising funds for the redevelopment of the Namugongo shrines in preparation for the Pope’s visit.

Meanwhile, the Uganda National Roads Authority says road reconstruction works at Namugongo are near completion.
According to the director of road maintenance at the roads authority, Eng Joseph Otim, so far 95% of the works is done.
He says the drainage channels have also been rebuilt with new culverts and pavements for pedestrians worked on.
The reconstruction works is all in preparation for the Pope’s visit slated for 27th -29th November.
