The Uganda Investment Authority must be involved in conservation and protection of the country’s natural resources.

This is according to the state minister for water Betty Bigombe who says this would increase awareness on the importance of environment protection.

She says since they are in charge of handling investors, their involvement would ensure they consider environment matters before allocating land to investors for any business.

Earlier, the government was asked to take on a military approach to strengthen protection of the country’s natural resources.

The proposal was made by Bulisa county MP Stephen Mukitale Birahwa following continued degradation of wetlands and other natural resources.

Mukitale said the current personnel to protect these resources are incapacitated hence the need to have security agencies like Police and army involved.

Although there is an environment police established, the limited funding and staffing have undermined its efficiency.
