Outgoing UN President Sam Kutesa says New global development goals are only likely to succeed if climate change is addressed.
Kutesa was speaking on the last day of his presidency of the 69th session of the General Assembly.
He noted the finalization of the new global goals for development as one of the “major highlights” of the session.
Known as the Sustainable Development Goals, the 17 targets will guide the international community’s development efforts for the next 15 years.
But Kutesa said that their success is dependent on an agreement on climate change.
World leaders are due to meet in Paris, France in December to agree an international legally-binding deal on climate change.
