Unvaccinated students will not be allowed in class when the government reopens schools next year in January for all learners.

The new policy will not affect learners below 18 years since the government has not rolled out vaccination for children.

School administrators and other authorities in the districts have also been ordered to block all unvaccinated teachers and non-teaching staff from accessing school premises.

On Friday, the ministry of education officials held a hybrid meeting with sector players and discussed the draft reopening plan.

The meeting was chaired by the ministry of education director for basic education Ismail Mulindwa in the presence of KCCA education director Juliet Namuddu and officials from the Uganda National Teachers Union.

Mulindwa confirmed the meeting but refused to provide details since he is not the spokesperson of the ministry

The Head Teacher of Seeta High School, Allan Obbo says the communication has been ongoing, and as such learners above 18 should get vaccinated.

Martin Okiria, the head teacher of Soroti SS and the National Chairperson of Secondary Schools’ Head Teachers’ Association says that all heads of schools have been asked to ensure that their learners above 18 years are vaccinated hence people should obey.

The Spokesperson of the Ministry of Education, Denis Mugimba said that he was not aware of the new requirements.
