The UPDF in Western Uganda has started scrutinizing the refugees entering the country form Eastern Congo to deter suspected rebels of Allied Democratic Forces from entering the country.

The UN refugee agency says over 700 Congolese have crossed into Uganda due to the ongoing fights between the FDLR rebel forces and the government forces in North Kivu.

The UPDF Second Division Spokesperson Maj Ronald Kakurungo says they are working with Internal Security Organisations and Immigration in registering all the refugees at the reception point of Nyakabande in Kisoro district.

Kakurungo however says despite this threat they cannot stop refugees fleeing the conflict from entering Uganda, because receiving them is provided for under the international law.

Meanwhile the Uganda Red Cross has describe the situation in Nyakabande camp has fragile.
Red Cross spokesperson Martin Mubiru says it’s mainly children and women who have fled the conflict and there is more need for refugee family link.
