The Uganda Revenue Authority has boasted of growing the revenue collection curve from Shs180 billion at its infancy in 1991 to shs19 trillion as of FY 2020/2021.

This comes as the tax body celebrates 30 years today.

According to the commissioner-general John Musinguzi, their target now is funding the national budget by 100% under its reechoed new vision of transformational revenue service for Uganda’s economic independence.”

Musinguzi meanwhile says they have registered a number of successes for the last 30 years including earning the government’s trust in its capacity to transparently collect and account for all revenues.

He adds that over the years, the authority has been able to position herself among her regional peers as a facilitator of trade in a harmonized environment.

Musinguzi says the challenge is clearing the gap between national needs and revenues collected.

The authority is holding thanksgiving prayers to celebrate the 30 years of existence at Kololo ceremonial grounds.

The event is to be presided over by the president.

URA was established on 15th September 1991 by an act of parliament.
