By Damali Mukhaye:

The Uganda Revenue Authority has impounded over 30 containers of merchandise with fake clearance documents.

Addressing journalists at the URA offices in Nakawa, the assistant commissioner public and corporate affairs Vincent Sseruma said some impostors from Uganda have defrauded several companies in the Netherlands, China and India.

The fraudsters reportedly used names and emails of reputable Ugandan firms to acquire items including Rice, tyres, Kerosene, lead acid and batteries from the suppliers promising to pay the suppliers, but disappeared shortly after the goods were delivered.

Sseruma says police is hunting for the suspects, although there are grave concerns that the fraudulent dealings are increasingly hurting Uganda’s trade ties with the rest of the world.
