By Samuel Ssebuliba:

The United States Ambassador to Uganda has expressed deep concern over the raids on Civil Society Organisations Offices in Kampala

Police yesterday surrounded the headquarters of Action Aid Uganda, in Kansanga and Great Lakes Initiative for Strategic Studies where they conducted a cordon and search operation.

In a statement issued this afternoon, Amb. Deborah Malac says that recent arrests and raids stifle the Ugandan people’s right to free expression and tarnish Uganda’s global image.

She adds that infringements on protected rights under Uganda’s Constitution will impede the country’s development.

She has thus called on the Government of Uganda to guarantee all its citizens freedom of speech, expression and assembly, without fear of intimidation.
