The U.S government has contributed US Dollars 16 million about Shs. 46 billion to support relief efforts in Uganda by the World Food Program.

The money that has been channeled through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) is for Protracted Relief and Recovery Operation in support of refugees in Uganda and food-insecure people in the Karamoja region.

An estimated 300,000 refugees living in settlements throughout Uganda, as well as 155,000 people from extremely vulnerable households in Karamoja are currently benefiting from assistance by WFP.

In a statement the WFP Acting Country Representative Michael Dunford said the donation will enable them ensure that food-insecure people in Karamoja have food at the most critical times of the year.

Meanwhile, USAID Uganda Mission Director Leslie Reed reiterated the commitment by the US government to addressing the humanitarian food and nutrition needs among both refugees and extremely vulnerable households in Uganda.
