WHO cautions governments on Covid jabs for children

Juliet Nalwooga | August 15, 2022

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has advised governments across the globe to put more focus on the vaccination of adults and people with underlying health conditions, as it is less urgent to vaccinate children.

This is contained in an updated statement on Covid-19 vaccination for children after the government announced a plan to start mass vaccination of all children aged 12-17 years starting August 22.

This has since drawn fierce criticism from a section of parents who have expressed skepticism about safety for children.

The WHO however maintains in the statement that vaccination benefits outweigh the risks such as heart inflammation and blood clots in all age groups.

According to the health ministry statistics, of the 14,000 children who have contracted Covid-19 in Uganda, only 7 have died.
