As Uganda joins in commemorating the International Day for Women Diplomacy, the women’s movement is asked to use the day to create a buzz about the value of global solidarity.
Addressing women leaders under the Uganda Women’s Network in Kampala recently, Sarah Mukasa, a board member of the
Center for African Philanthropy and Social Investments, said global solidarity cannot be built with strong narratives.
She said there’s power in having powerful narratives that tell what women have done and what they continue to do in the global policy formulation.
Mukasa challenged the women of Uganda to tell the story of what they have achieved and how it has helped this nation.
The power of building narratives is something that intrigues me, everything, every choice that we have made as a policy has been driven by a narrative that somebody created. The private sector is the best to develop your brain’’, Mukasa Said.
The International Day for Women in Diplomacy, is observed annually on June 24, to, among other things; celebrate women’s contributions to diplomacy and advocate for their increased representation in decision-making roles.
