With just two days to the end of the National Housing and Population Census, authorities in Pallisa are making special arrangements to carry out the exercise on the 6 islands of the district.

The Pallisa Resident District Commissioner, (RDC) Dhikusooka Magidu, tells KFM that while the exercise started on time in other sub-counties, the island communities have not been enumerated because of accessibility and weather-related challenges.

“We are making special arrangements to conduct census on these islands. We need to hire boats that could take the census officials and undertake the enumeration exercise” Mr Magidu said.

The RDC says affected islands Otelele, Oluka, Luzira, Gaba, Amatiama and Kambatana located in the sub-counties of Obutete and Gogonyo with an estimated combined population of 8,000.

The 2024 NHPC that commenced on May 10th is expected to end on May 19th, with the exception of Kampala, Wakiso and Mukono where the exercise was extended by one day due to technical glitches at the start.
