The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced adjustment of dates for the nomination of presidential elections which was earlier scheduled to be conducted on October 2 and 3, 2025.
According to the Commission Chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama, the nominations will now take place between the 23 and September 24, 2025.
Addressing the media in Kampala on Friday, Justice Byamukama said the commission made this adjustment after taking into consideration post nomination processes that have to be concluded before the candidates hit the campaign trial.
“These include the capturing of presidential nomination returns, production of ballot paper samples, harmonization of the campaign programs and signing of the Memorandum of Undertaking by all the nominated candidates,” he said.
“After taking into account all the above, the Commission realized that maintaining the earlier nomination dates, these post nomination processes would drastically reduce the period available to the presidential candidates for the campaigns,” he added.
During a media briefing held at the Electoral Commission offices in Kampala on July 18, the Commission also announced dates for nominations for all Local Government elective positions for the 2026 general elections, taking place from the September 3 -12, 2025.
Justice Byabakama added that nomination of candidates for parliamentary elections, shall take place from September 16 -17, 2025.
He also announced date for campaigns.
“Campaigns for presidential elections to be held from October 4, 2025 to January 12, 2026”, he said.
He added, “Conduct of campaigns for parliamentary elections will take place from 23rd September 2025 to 12th January 2026.
