The government through the Ministry of Gender, labour and Social Development (MGLSD) has officially handed over 30 brand new vehicles to Uganda’s gazetted cultural leaders to empower them in mobilizing their communities for social and economic transformation.
Among the beneficiaries include; Omukama of Tooro Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru, Emorimori Papa Iteso Paul Sande Emolot, Omukama of Bunyoro Gafabusa Solomon Iguru, Kamuswaga of Kooki Apollo Sansa Kabumbuli, Omusinga of Rwenzuru Charles Wesley Mumbere Iremangoma , Kyabazinga of Busoga William Wilberforce Nadiope IV among others.
Speaking during the handover ceremony held at Kololo Independence grounds in Kampala, the Ministry’s head Betty Amongi noted that, cultural institutions play a key role in preserving Uganda’s social fabric, mediating community conflicts, promoting positive values, and supporting government programs such as household income improvement and ending gender-based violence.
Amongi says, the initiative demonstrates Government’s commitment to preserving the country’s heritage, promote cultural identity, and empowering cultural leaders to effectively.
‘’Under the ministry there supposed to be custodians of values that preserve the identity, which starts with languages, ’said Amongi Betty.
The launch of the Enhancement program for Traditional Leaders is being held under the theme, “Repositioning cultural Institutions for community mobilization and socio-Economic Transformation.
