GAVI To Procure 10 Motorboats For Pregnant Mothers

This GAVI (Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunisation)- Funded project will involve delivery of 10 motorboats, 600 motorcycles and 70 vehicles to strengthen health teams in fishing communities.

The move follows the increased cases of maternal death due to lack efficient systems to transfer pregnant mother to bigger referral centers.

Appearing before the Parliamentary Heath Committee, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of health Dr Asuman Lukwago said the procurement and rehabilitation of all referral centers especially in Kalangala and Buvuma islands are on course.

The procurement process is being handled by UNICEF’s procurement department.
