Over 3600 children expected to be born in Uganda today

This is according the head of the steering committee on sickle cell at the ministry of health Dr. Charles Kiyaga who blames this to failure by couples to screen before marriage.

The northern region is followed by the East, Central and Western region.

Dr Kiyaga however says the Ministry is now moving to start screening all babies between 0-25 years in areas burdened by the disease.

He made the comments ahead of the sickle cell day on Friday.

Meanwhile the founder Uganda American sickle cell rescue fund Lukia Mulumba says there is need for civic education on how the disease can be avoided.
