The Minister for Science and Technology, Dr Monica Musenero has advised proprietors of fuel stations across the country to incorporate e-mobility facilities to quicken the transition.

Speaking at the launch of Texol Energy LTD, an oil and gas company that has introduced fuel cards for boda boda riders in Kampala, Musenero said the globe is transitioning to e-mobility and that Uganda has strategized ahead of time.

“The whole world is shifting to e-mobility, so we are encouraging our investors to incorporate the e-mobility facilities in the petrol stations, especially the new ones. For motorcycles, we use swapping stations… there has to be a place where these batteries are charged and the boda bodas come and exchange,” the minister said on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Allan Muhumuza, the e-mobility head at the Science and Technology ministry says currently, Uganda leads the East African region in terms of e-mobility.

He revealed by 2030, they expect to have over one million electric vehicles on the road from the current 15,000 with over 1,000 motorcycles.
