The ban on polythene bags still stands, says Information minister Jim Muhwezi.
The clarification has been made by the Information Minister following earlier reports that cabinet had lifted the ban.
Addressing the media in Kampala, information minister Jim Muhwezi said government realizes that continued manufacture distribution and disposal of plastic bags is inconsistent with the long term environmental aspirations of the country.
He says the national Environment management Authority should continue with its efforts to phase out plastic bags.
