Atleast 9 youth in Abim district have been arrested over diverting Youth Livelihood funds to payment of dowry.
The youth including district councilors were arrested in an operation commanded by the Resident District Commissioner Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka.
Hashaka says the operation is aimed at helping the district recover money that the youth borrowed but they have since failed to pay back.
Nelson Olwit the Assistant Chief Administrative Officer says the district had conducted a series of meetings with the youth to see how to recover the money in vain.
He adds that out of shs 552 million that was disbursed to 49 youth groups in the financial years of 2013-2014 and 2015 nothing has been recovered.
