These facilities are aimed at decentralizing cancer treatment services as well as de-congesting the main cancer institute at Mulago.

Addressing journalists at Uganda Media Center, the institute’s Director Doctor Jackson Orem asked government to release the funds in the next financial year if they are to have these centers operational.

According to Doctor Orem, 85% of cancers patients at the Uganda Cancer Institute are from upcountry and as such these regional centers will help to de-congest the main center at Mulago and also help people to test early for cancer.

The centers are to be put in mbale, Mbarara, Arua and Gulu.
