The Head of the Nuclear Energy Unit at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development Sarah Nafuna says in about 14 years from now Uganda will have its first nuclear power plant constructed near Lake Kyoga in Nakasongola district.

Nafuna says some of the areas that are deemed safe for construction of a nuclear power plant include, Lamwo district, Kyoga, Buyende, Nakasongola, Mubende and Kiruhura districts.

She adds that in the first phase, a 1000 Mega –Watts power plant will be constructed, but by 2040 about a 2000 Mega Watt plant will be in place.
