Many had hoped that they would be considered by the government for the Covid-19 relief cash but to their disappointment, they were left out.

Joseph Thembo Isingoma the Muhokua Transit camp focal person said they are currently having inadequate food supply by both government and well-wishers.

The recently concluded floods assessment report indicated that nearly 290 households are currently vulnerable because they were affected by floods.

In May last year, over 15 people were reported dead by floods and mudslides in Kasese district after several rivers of Nyamwamba, Rwimi, Mubuku, and Nyamugasani burst their banks.

Floods were also as a result of River Lhubiriha, which borders Uganda and DR Congo along Kitholhu sub-county, in Bukonzo West Constituency which burst its banks after heavy downpour.

The over 1,000 internally displaced persons were then relocated to Muhokya Transit camp.

Floods destroyed people’s gardens, human lives, roads, schools, bridges and health facilities.

Fresh floods hit the same area after River Nyamwamba again burst its banks on Friday last week.
