Local leaders in Kalungu district have raised concern over lack of pit latrines in several villages in the district.

The Kamuwunga Village Chairperson, Ronald Ssemanda says several households do not have pit latrines, putting lives at risk of contracting diseases as a result of poor hygiene.

He says that many people still use the lake and nearby bushes to answer the call of nature.

Ssemanda has however, asked the district leaders to sensitize residents about the dangers of open defecation, which he mainly attributes to ignorance.

Richard Kyabaggu the Kalungu District Chairperson has warned residents that don’t have pit latrines in their homes to dig them up or face arrest and prosecution.
