The lawmaker will now proceed to have the bill published in the gazette before it is tabled for first reading in parliament.

Despite efforts by Fort Portal Municipality MP Alex Ruhunda, the Speaker insisted that submissions on the matter will come after the bill is presented.

Ruhunda argued that whereas amending the constitution is a right, the existing challenges which risk creating a national crisis must be considered.

The lawmaker also argues that the spirit in which Magyezi’s motion has been brought does not capture the capture the views of the majority of Ugandans.
