Police are heavily deployed in Mbale town following reports of terror threats on vital government institutions and other public places by Al shabab militants.

This is after a letter reportedly containing the said threats was delivered to Mbale Central Police Station by unidentified people.

According to Elgon Region Police Commander Francis Chemusto, the letter was delivered by suspected Somali –based Al-shabab militants who are reportedly targeting places like supermarkets and banks in Mbale town.

He says the said letter indicated that the militants were in town ready to cause havoc.

While meeting various stakeholders from various institutions, Chemusto has urged them not to take such threats lightly.

He has also called upon members of the general public to work closely with security agencies and report any suspicious people and objectives to the authorities to counter such threats.
