The ministry has since ruled out fish poisoning pointing to a drop in oxygen levels.

The affected fish specie is Nile Perch.

The ministry permanent secretary Pius Kasaija says preliminary investigations show that the recent storms on the lake could have caused mixing of different waters with the one low in oxygen coming up and mixing with upper layers hence reducing oxygen levels.

Kasaija says samples of the dead fish and water were picked from Kasenyi, Gguda, Bugonga and Kigungu landing sites and Wagagi flower farm and lido beach and taken to three laboratories for comparative and confirmatory analysis.

However as they await for a report, Kasaija advises the fishing communities and the general public to pick the dead fish and bury it to reduce on the smell.
