Members of Parliament’s Committee on Defence and Internal Affairs have asked the Inspector General of Police Gen Kale Kayihura to streamline the operations of the institution.

Kayihura was this afternoon appearing before the committee chaired by Mityana Woman MP Judith Nabakooba to defend the police budget projections for the next financial year.

Earlier, drama ensued as committee chairperson attempted to block Butambala County MP Muwanga from pinning police on alleged illegal arrests.

Meanwhile, the State Minister for Internal Affairs Obiga Kania had challenged Kivumbi to justify his allegations shortly before drama ensued.

Rubaga South MP Kato Lubwama also joined the exchange, accusing Kivumbi of disrespect.

However Kayihura has dismissed the claims as baseless saying that all arrests are based on intelligence briefs.

This comes a day after the police chief paraded suspected criminals who confessed to working with some officers.
