President Yoweri Museveni will today address the nation on the occasion of this years’ International Labor Day.
This year’s celebrations are however unlike the others because of the coronavirus pandemic which has seen many workers laid off while others have missed salaries due to the shocks caused by the outbreak.
International Workers’ Day, also known as Workers’ Day or Labour Day in some countries and often referred to as May Day celebrates labourers and the working class that is promoted by the International labour movement.
Due to the lockdown, the celebrations which were to take place in Mbarara district have since been called off.
According to the gender, labour and social development minister Frank Tumwebaze, the decision to call off the celebrations is in fulfilment of the current covid-19 guidelines which banned public gatherings.
The day is being marked under the theme; “stop the pandemic.”
