Addressing journalists at the Uganda Media Center, the internal affairs minister Gen Jeje Odongo who says the exercise is aimed at cleaning up the NGO national register which has not been cleaned since 1989.

He says an ongoing verification exercise of the NGOs has revealed that out of 14207 operating in the country, only 3810 have valid permits.

He now encourages NGOs which have been operating without valid permits to take advantage of the validation exercise starting today up to 7th September 2019 to renew their permits.

The Uganda National NGO Forum has welcomed Government’s validation exercise of NGOs in the country.

However the NGO Forum Executive Director Richard Ssewakiryanga tells kfm that government should allow more time for the exercise given the number of NGOs in the country

He suggests that government extends it beyond one month for a comprehensive results.
