Upon expiry of the May 19th deadline for validation of sim-card registration, the communications regulator ordered telecom companies to switch off all sim-cards whose owners had failed to beat the deadline.

Responding to public outcry, the President then directed that the deadline be extended to 30th August to allow time for more people to validate their registration details using National IDs.

However, speaking to KFM, Nakawa Division Mayor Ronald Balimwezo says that before the deadline was extended, they were over whelmed by the long queues of people seeking to be registered but sadly now no one is coming.

The deputy mayor of Kampala Central Division Sam Gombya also says they have also registered a reduction in the number of people coming to register for National IDs which is a requirement for validation of sim-card registration.
