The head of Radio at NMG-U Mr Joseph Beyanga whom we now know as Joe Walker for his road safety campaign “Stay in Your Lane” Safe Roads Save lives” is nearing the finish line.
Beyanga who on Feb 28th kicked off his 320km long trek from Kampala to Bushenyi is today expected to reach his final destination.
He has spent the last 11 days walking along the Kampala-Masaka highway and yesterday he docked at Kabwohe in Sheema district.
Along the journey, he painted zebra crossings at accident blackspots and engaged communities on road safety.
This morning he is expected to walk the last leg of about 20 Kilometers to his Bushenyi based home.
Beyanga believes with more awareness, it is possible to avoid road crashes in the country.
He says much as the walk has neared the end, the campaign on road safety should not stop.
“The campaign is not coming to end, it’s the journey from Kampala to Bushenyi that I have been walking that will end today. This is the beginning of another journey of road safety awareness because it’s not a one-off. We have created the awareness but how do we build on the awareness to bring to an end the senseless killings on our roads,” said Mr Beyanga
He has also shared with us how he feels about the journey.
“It has been a journey of one step at a time, I am excited but not so much surprised because we planned and trusted, it shows you that if you take it one step at a time and calculate your steps, you will get to where you are going,” added Mr Beyanga.
