Opposition political parties are saying that the arrest of renegade general David Sejusa is meant to intimidate the public.
Gen. Sejusa who was arrested on Sunday is currently held at Makindye Military barracks.
Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Spokesperson Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda says the arrest cannot deter people from pushing for what they believe in.
Relatedly Democratic Party’s Secretary General Mathias Nsubuga says this is a clear sign that government is trying to create panic and fear ahead of the forthcoming general elections.
But NRM’s deputy Treasurer Dr.Kenneth Omona has refuted all views by the Opposition, adding that since Gen. Sejusa is still a serving officer, only the military can give details about his fate;
Meanwhile the lawyers representing detained General David Ssejusa have visited him at Makindye military Barracks.
Led by David Mushabe and Mike Mabikke, the lawyers are concerned that the army has not listed the charges Sejusa is likely to face and that his family members have also been barred from visiting him.
The lawyers were by this evening processing his bail application papers.
Earlier the government spokesperson Ofwono Opondo said Gen Sejusa’s arrest should act as a warning to all serving army and police officers to desist from making reckless political statements.
