Sensitize communities about their rights to health.

MBARARA, UGANDA - DECEMBER 15, 2011: Dr. Elioda Tumwesigye, a doctor, farmer, and a Minister of Parlimant started the Kabwohe Clinical Research Center (KCRC) in 1996. He received a Ugx 80m (just short of $45k) term loan for 36 months to complete construction of a new building for HIV/ART treatment which services the whole region. The loan was used to contribute to the construction of a building currently housing an AIDS Care (ART) Clinic which is also serving as a one stop diagnostic center. This enabled the AIDS services to shift from the lower KCRC clinic building and for the general out and inpatient services to shift from rented poor structure in which they had been since 1999. Following the establishment of an AIDS Clinic they attracted funding from donors and were able to construct another new building housing research. They have been able to acquire state of the art laboratory and radiology equipment which in the long run will enable them to make more money. (Photos by Morgana Wingard)

According to the Country Advisory, Health Systems Development at world Health organization, Juliet Bataringayam, most marginalized groups in societies have been exposed to greater rates of ill-health and face significant obstacles to access quality healthcare.

She notes that no one should beg for medication because the government has an obligation to provide health care to everyone, hence the need to sensitize communities about their rights to health to enable them demand for better health care in their respective constituencies.

Meanwhile, she also notes that the community equally have an obligation of promoting their own health at an individual level like sleeping under treated mosquito net, drinking clean water among others.
