This is a group of senior medical doctors, duly registered with the Uganda Medical and Dental practitioners Council who are undergoing postgraduate work-study training to become specialists.

They have today laid down their tools over non-payment of their Shs2.5m allowances since November 2022.

According to Dr. Robert Lubega, the President of SHOs, besides some unverified tweets regarding the same by government officials, they have not received any formal response from the government since they expressed their intent to demonstrate.

“We have seen a circulating WhatsApp message written by the acting commissioner clinical services to the directors informing them that the ministry has released money for two months for continuing Senior House Officers. It was further emphasized by Mr. Ainebyona who is the PRO of the ministry of health that they have released this money. What we are wondering is whether government offices operate on the weekend and that if actually this money was wired out and if it was, we have not seen it and our demands are clear,” Lubega said.
