Dr. Nyanzi was officially suspended from the university after she was accused of using social media to insult and castigate the minister despite warnings against the same.

In a letter addressed to Dr Nyanzi dated March 30th from the Director Human Resources, she was suspended from the university on half payments following a directive from the university appointments board and was advised to appear before the board for further disciplinary action.

In response on behalf of Nyanzi, the Center for Legal Aid has written back to the university a letter dated April 5th, saying the charges that are currently framed against their client relating to social media comments are inconsistent with her right to freedom of expression.

The lawyers are demanding that the university immediately terminates these so-called disciplinary proceedings and makes necessary arrangements to give Dr. Nyanzi sufficient reparations for the inconvenience and injury so far caused to her.
