The Anti-Corruption Court has ordered the former National Social Security Fund Board Chairman Geoffrey Onegi Obel to defend himself on the alleged fraud offences against him.

Anti-Corruption Court Judge Margaret Tibulya has ordered him to file his Defence on July 10th  because the evidence adduced against requires him to explain how the funds were lost.

Onegi Obel is accused of abuse of office and causing a financial loss of Shs 8bn shillings to government which he allegedly committed between 2003 and 2005.

It’s alleged that Obel on behalf of NSSF went into a joint venture with Mugoya Estates Ltd, a construction company without ensuring financial viability of the investment.
