PAP Rejects Motion To Stop Election Observation

Members of the Pan African Parliament (PAP) have rejected a motion that would see the institution pull out from participating in election observation.
This Motion was moved by Saleh Kebzabo who argued that the Pan African Parliament needed to be independent of the executive.
Kebzabo has reasoned that participation of the continental parliament in the election observation under the auspices of the African Union Commission (AUC) does not correspond with its ethics.
A section of legislators, however, argued that despite their independence as an arm of government, PAP must work with the African Union Commission.
Members said it was necessary to keep working together on election observation since funding for the missions is sourced and provided through the AUC.
