The Inspectorate of Government is concerned that many unqualified individuals continue to occupy public offices, particularly at the local government level, despite the recent audit of government payrolls by the Auditor General.
Speaking to senior public accounting officers from various government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies on Monday, Inspector General of Government (IGG) Betty Kamya stated that her office’s investigations have confirmed that a significant number of these individuals possess fake academic qualifications.
She emphasized the severity of the issue, noting that it has been brought to the attention of the President and that she anticipates a Cabinet response to address the problem.
“We have been receiving so many complaints about the recruitment of human resource in government especially in district service commissions. The complaints are that people who are recruited do not have the qualifications,” Kamya said.
Kamya further explained that this situation has contributed to a significant amount of substandard work across numerous government departments.
