Teachers under the Uganda National Teachers Union have called off their strike until the 28th of August.

This is to allow more time for negotiations with the government for a possible pay rise.

The meeting was called this morning to discuss proposals reached at during another held with President Museveni yesterday.

The President directed the ministries of education and finance to address the teachers’ concerns.

The Union Vice Chairperson James Tweheyo however says they will resume the strike if nothing is done to address their plight during this time.

The strike run for 3days as the teachers demanded for a 100% pay rise, among other issues.

A group of teachers however stormed out of today’s meeting in disagreement with the resolutions reached at.

Led by the UNATU Chairman for Kyenjonjo district Amos Karamaji and Mayuge district UNATU chairman Musa Kyigada and over 20 others, the group says they wanted the strike to continue until government has taken some action.
