KAMPALA: The Anti-Corruption Court in Kampala has fixed the 8th of April 2026 to deliver its judgment in the Karamoja iron sheets theft case involving Bududa District Woman Member of Parliament and former State Minister for Karamoja Affairs, Agnes Nandutu.
Nandutu is facing charges of dealing in suspect property, which includes diversion of iron sheets meant for the vulnerable people of Karamoja.
The charges stem from investigations conducted in April 2023, which linked her to the alleged unlawful possession of 2,000 iron sheets recovered from her farm in Seeta, Mukono district.
The iron sheets were part of government relief items intended for vulnerable communities in the Karamoja sub-region.
During today’s proceedings, three court assessors advised the trial judge, Jane Okuo Kajuga, to find Nandutu guilty and convict her on the charges.
However, under Ugandan law, the opinions of court assessors is not binding. The trial judge will independently evaluate the evidence on record before delivering the final judgment.
The case has attracted significant public attention, as it forms part of a broader probe into the alleged diversion of iron sheets meant for Karamoja.
The court is expected to deliver its ruling next week.
It should be noted that three senior ministers Amos Lugoloobi, Mary Goretti Kitutu, and Agnes Nandutu were all brought before court in April 2023 in connection with the same Karamoja iron sheets scandal.
Their prosecution followed a government crackdown on the alleged diversion of relief items meant for vulnerable communities in the Karamoja sub-region, a case that has since drawn widespread public and political scrutiny.
