EAC leaders agree on a 100 year development strategy

The 16th East African Community Heads of State Summit has closed with a resolve to develop a 10 -year Infrastructure Development Strategy.
According to the EAC Secretary General Dr. Richard Sezibera, the strategy will prioritize rail, energy and ports.
He also revealed plans to develop harmonized mobile carrier calling rates by July 2015, a move aimed at making communication within the region more affordable.
Sezibera also emphasized the need for all non-tariff barriers to be addressed urgently.
Meanwhile Kenya’s president Uhuru Kenyatta has handed over chairmanship of the summit to Tanzania’s Jakaya Kikwete.
The summit held in the Kenyan capital Nairobi was attended by all the regional heads of state with Salva Kiir of South Sudan as Special Guest.

Meanwhile Kenya’s president Uhuru Kenyatta has handed over chairmanship of the summit to Tanzania’s Jakaya Kikwete.
The summit was attended by all the regional heads of state with Salva Kiir of South Sudan as Special Guest.
At the same summit, the Heads of State also signed a protocol to operationalise the extended jurisdiction of the East African Court of Justice which saw Lady Justice Monica Mugenyi appointed Principal Judge of the regional court.
Justice Aidace Ngiye has been sworn in as Judge of the regional courts First Instance Division, Justice Kiryabwire Geoffrey as Judge of the Appellate Division, while Justice Aidace Ngiye is appointed Judge of the First Instance Division.
