The Uganda Human Rights Commission has condemned the weekend shooting by KCCA officials in Luzira over the weekend, in which at least one person was killed.

The officials were in the area to demolish illegal structures in an operation by the city director for physical planning George Agaba that turned bloody.

The commission’s chairperson Medi Kagwa says the KCCA officials exhibited a lack of respect to the right to life and must be condemned.

He is asking the city Executive Director Jennipher Musisi to develop guidelines to manage city demolitions to avoid a repeat of the same.

Kagwa says it’s not enough to issue public apologies but the KCCA administration must be seen to take steps to avoid a repeat of the same.

He also calls for speedy investigations into the killings to ensure justice for the victims.

Medi Kagwa is also appealing to victims of the exercise to file complaints with the Commission to enable it extend help.
