Kibuku District is worried about shortage of dead body preservatives as the deadly covid-19 continues to claim more lives.

Health officials in the district are asking the ministry of health to urgently restock health facilities with formalin to address this growing concern.

The District Health Officer Dr Godfrey Buyinza, says availability of formalin will help ease the work of embalming officers given the increasing number of COVID- related deaths in the district.

Formalin is a chemical used for preserving dead bodies.

Buyinza adds that many health facilities have also run out of PPEs, oxygen cylinders, beds, mattresses as well as dedicated to human resources among others.

He noted that a number of health facilities dotted across the district constantly faces enormous challenges of drug stock due to the overwhelming number of patients.

As of June, the district had recorded 354 cumulative covid infections and 19 deaths.

12 health workers and 4 security officers are among the 170 active cases that are under home-based management.
