The African Union Special Envoy for the LRA, Francisco Madeira has asked the rebels and their leader to abandon the rebellion and lay down their arms.

Speaking at the end of a joint mission to Bangui in Central African Republic and Juba, South Sudan, Madeira notes that the women and children, who were forcibly recruited by the LRA commanders, need to also abandon the rebel activities and live a normal life.

He assures them that incase of withdrawal from the LRA, their security will be guaranteed and discussions will be initiated to organize their social reintegration and resettlement.

Madeira also calls for mechanisms to stream line Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration to facilitate the process.
