EACJ to deliver judgement on Zziwa EALA compensation Case

The East African Court of Justice is today expected to deliver judgment of a case in which the former Speaker of the East African Legislative Assembly Margret Zziwa is seeking $ 2m as compensation for removal from office.

The Arusha-based court will deliver its ruling on the case filed by the legislator against the secretary general of the East African Community against her removal in 2014 which she termed as illegal and an infringement of the EAC Treaty.

Zziwa, one of Uganda’s representatives, served as Eala Speaker from June 2012 until December 2014 after her impeachment in the Assembly for alleged abuse of office.

According to Anna Nabaasa, the court’s communications officer the judgment will be delivered by Judges in the 5 First Instance Division led by Lady Justice Monica Mugenyi.
