The opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) flag bearer Dr. Col Kiiza Besigye is set to return his nominations forms to the Electoral Commission next week.
This follows failure by The Democratic Alliance (TDA) to reach consensus on a joint opposition presidential candidate.
A day-long meeting held by the Alliance Summit yesterday failed to reach a consensus on a joint Presidential Candidate between former premier Amama Mbabazi and FDC’s Dr. Kiiza Besigye.
At the end of the meeting, the Conservative Party and FDC officials agreed to endorse the candidature of Kiiza Besigye, while the Democratic Party, Peoples Progressive Party, Uganda Federal Alliance, and UPC have endorsed the candidature of Amama Mbabazi.
Speaking to journalists the FDC publicity secretary Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda said the party seeks to have Besigye nominated on 5th October 2015.
He adds that although consensus has not been realized, the parties will meet soon to consider the other aspects of TDA work in pursuing the goals and objectives of the Alliance.
